BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off some strong performances in the month of April, The Lehigh rowing team wraps up the month Saturday by competing against La Salle and Delaware on the Schuylkill River. First, the men's and women's squads face La Salle in a scrimmage beginning at 8:45 a.m. The women then go up against Delaware at 12 p.m.
Â
"We are using this weekend as a last check on lineups, and to make sure we have the right mental approach to racing before going into the championships," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley.
Â
The Dad Vail Regatta and Patriot League Championships are quickly approaching. Dad Vails for the men run from May 13-15 while the league championships for the women is May 13.
 Â
"With the scrimmage in the morning against La Salle, then racing Delaware a little later, we are trying to mimic what going to the championships will require of us in a single day," said Conley. "We are hoping that with the scrimmage, we can show up and put together a great first set of races, then come off the water like we will with the championships and mentally prepare to find another level of racing to then get back out there and see if we can replicate or better the speed from earlier in the day."
Â
Last weekend, the women put forth a strong effort against Rutgers and Holy Cross, highlighted by the Varsity Eight defeating Patriot League rival Holy Cross for the first time since 2007. The weekend prior, Lehigh enjoyed success at the Kerr Cup, highlighted by the Men's Varsity Four winning a Gold Medal.
Â
The Mountain Hawks are looking to build on that momentum heading into a big day Saturday, their last chance to compete against outside competition before the championship races in May.
Â
"This week in practice, we were looking to really finalize some lineups," said Conley. "We have had a number of people capable and forcing the coaches to really consider them to move into the top boats. The student-athletes are the ones creating and seizing the opportunities to better themselves and in turn, are bettering the team. There are definitely a few seats that we need to figure out and the daily competition in practice has really elevated this team to new heights. Hopefully, we can put it on the water this weekend."
Â
Following Saturday's racing, Lehigh returns to action in two weekends on May 13 at both the Dad Vail Regatta and Patriot League Championships.
