BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's rowing team returns to the water on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks face Rutgers and Holy Cross on the Raritan River in New Brunswick, N.J. Racing begins at 9 a.m. Lehigh looks to build off its success at the Kerr Cup and continue to improve heading into the Patriot League Championships and Dad Vail Regatta less than one month away.
The Mountain Hawks are making strides, and are looking to consistently row to the best of their potential.
"We just keep putting our focus on each practice, why we're doing what we're doing and how to get faster through our efforts," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "This weekend allows us a check in directly with a Patriot League contender to see where we are and how we're progressing. It also forces us to step up, with it only being three boats and no heats. It will directly show the speed everyone has."
At last weekend's Kerr Cup, Lehigh's Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight each advanced to the grand finals. This Saturday is another opportunity to get better.
"We have seen both these crews earlier in the year and they are both very tough teams," said Conley. "The goal for the team should be to find our base speed and row our race. If we do that and are aware of where the other crews are, we hope to find ourselves in a good position come Patriot League Championships."
Following Saturday's racing, the Lehigh women face Delaware and La Salle next Saturday on the Schuylkill River while the men will row against La Salle.
