BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior Courtney Avery has been recognized as the Patriot League's Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the high jump at Saturday's Greyhound Invitational.
Avery came within two centimeters of her own school outdoor record with her leap of 1.77 meters. The jump was good enough for first place out of 36 competitors and marked her second outdoor high jump win this season. The mark was also the highest jump so far this outdoor season in the Patriot League and currently ranks 18th among NCAA East Region qualifiers.
This is the first weekly award of the outdoor season for Avery, who was previously named the Field Athlete of the Week twice during the indoor season. She is the defending outdoor champion and three-time indoor Patriot League champion in the high jump.
Avery and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will compete this weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
