Lehigh Set for Busy Weekend with Three Meets

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After splitting last weekend's annual dual meet with rival Lafayette, the Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will split their squad and compete in a trio of meets this weekend to kick off the second half of their outdoor schedule. The team will be represented at the Princeton Outdoor Invitational, the Bison Outdoor Classic and the Greyhound Invitational.

The Mountain Hawks will have a large contingent at the Greyhound Invitational, hosted by Moravian College at the Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem. The meet will be the largest ever hosted by Moravian, with 31 teams and over 2,100 athletes competing. The meet kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on Friday with the hammer throw and shot put, with the 10K scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday's field events get underway at 10 a.m. with the last event (4x400) scheduled for 6:50 p.m.

The Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell will begin at noon on Saturday and run throughout the evening, before concluding late afternoon on Sunday. Saturday's events will feature most mid-distance and distance events on the track, as well as the javelin, high jump, triple jump and discus. All other events will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The Princeton Outdoor Invitational will feature members of Lehigh's women's team competing in the multis on Thursday and Friday. The women's heptathlon gets underway at 2 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday.
In last weekend's action, Lehigh defeated Lafayette 117-85 on the women's side and dropped a 101-98 decision on the men's side at the annual dual meet between the two schools. Senior Gabrielle Wardle was named the Patriot League's Female Field Athlete of the Week after winning three events (high jump, long jump, javelin), ranking her in the top two in the league in the high jump and javelin this season.
Freshman Noreen Byrne took home Track Athlete of the Meet honors for Lehigh after winning the 400m hurdles and placing fifth in the 100m hurdles. All told, the Lehigh women won 11 events, including seven of the eight field events. Wardle leads the team with six outdoor victories this season, followed by Kiana Wright (long/triple jumps) and Nia Baker (shot put/hammer) with four apiece.
Senior Robert Hugin earned Lehigh Track Athlete of the Meet honors and junior Daniel Boardman earned Field Athlete of the Meet accolades, helping to lead the Mountain Hawks to sweeps in five events against the Leopards. Hugin captured the 400m hurdles title and Boardman took first in the long jump, second in the high jump and fifth in the javelin. Junior Lucas Warning captured his third shot put win of the outdoor campaign, junior Daniel Reichenbach won his second straight triple jump and freshman Brian Arita won his second 5K of the season.
Following this weekend's action, the Mountain Hawks will split again next weekend for the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton and the UAlbany Spring Classic.
