Mountain Hawks recognized with academic awards from NFHCA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Ten Lehigh field hockey student-athletes have been recognized by the NFHCA as members of the National Academic Squad for Division I. The ten players earned GPAs of 3.3 or higher in the fall semester, led by a perfect 4.0 GPA from senior Erin Ricker. As a team, the Mountain Hawks logged a GPA over 3.0 during the fall, which also earned them an NFHCA National Academic Team Award.

Recognized on the National Academic Squad was freshman Lauren Dice, sophomores Katie Morris, Jackie Renda and Julia Washburn, juniors Kassidy Green, Janelle High and Julia Ward, as well as seniors Kat Kneizys, Taylor Mygatt and Ricker. Green, Mygatt and Ricker were all named to the squad for a third straight year.

Lehigh has a history of success in the classroom, most recently, this past fall when 14 Mountain Hawks were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, marking the third most honorees in the league.

The Mountain Hawks wrapped up the 2015 season 5-13 and 2-4 in league play, which included strong efforts against top teams. Lehigh closed out the year with road Patriot League wins at Colgate and Holy Cross, while its four league losses came by a total of seven goals. The Mountain Hawks took American to overtime while holding nationally-ranked Boston University to three goals, tying for the Terriers' lowest offensive output in a Patriot League game all season. Lehigh will return its leading scorer, Teresa Carotenuto and Ward, the team's three-year starting goalkeeper.
