BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team suffered a tough 69-49 loss to first-place Army Saturday night in Stabler Arena. Junior Lexi Martins scored the 1,000th point of her career during the game while the program's four seniors (Amina Affini, Elizabeth Jordan, Kerry Kinek and Elizabeth Sharlow) were honored on Senior Night. The Mountain Hawks fall to 17-11 overall and 10-7 in league play with the loss, while Army improves to 25-2 overall and 16-1 in Patriot League action.

"Army played tremendously today," said head coach Sue Troyan. "I'm so proud of how our seniors have represented our program and university. In my 20-plus years, I don't think I've ever had a class that represents our program with such character, integrity and team-first mentality."

Martins become the 18th 1,000 point scorer in Lehigh history when she converted a free throw with 3:26 left in the third quarter. The Irvington, N.Y. native also becomes just the seventh-ever member of Lehigh's 1,000 point/500 rebound club as she wrapped up the contest with 1,005 points and 848 career rebounds.

"Getting her 1,000th point as a junior is a credit to Lexi," said Troyan. "She's a tremendous rebounder and scorer and we're proud of her accomplishments."

Martins led Lehigh against Army with her 22nd double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kinek followed with 11 points, while sophomore Quinci Mann chipped in seven.

Two-time Patriot League Player of the Year Kelsey Minato led Army with 23 points, while Aimee Oertner followed with 16 points.

Lehigh finished the game shooting 30.9 percent (17-for-55) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from three-point range and 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the free throw line. The Black Knights shot 43.3 percent (29-for-67) from the field, 43.5 percent (10-for-23) from downtown and 25.0 percent (1-for-4) from the charity stripe. Army held a 42-36 rebound advantage.

The Black Knights got out to a quick 8-2 lead to open the game before three point from Martins had Lehigh within 8-5 with 3:58 left on the first-quarter clock. Army worked its lead to 13-7 thanks to a 5-2 run, but a three-pointer from sophomore Bernadette Devaney followed to trim the Black Knights' lead to 13-10 with under three minutes on the clock. Martins scored Lehigh's last four points of the term, but Army countered with eight of its own to take a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.

The Black Knights opened the second frame with a 10-0 run that put Army in front 31-14 and ran the clock down to 6:47. Layups from Martins and Sharlow and four points from Kinek comprised an 8-3 Lehigh streak over the next 3:41 that pulled the Mountain Hawks within 34-22. Army responded with nine of the half's final 11 points to extend its advantage to 43-24 heading into halftime.

An Affini three-pointer opened the third quarter and ignited a 10-2 Lehigh run that also saw four points from Mann as cut the Army advantage to at 45-34 just over three minutes into the term. The Mountain Hawks were within single digits at the 5:07 mark following a Mann trey and Martins free throw that put the score at 47-38, but Minato drained back-to-back three-pointers to thwart Lehigh's momentum and put the Black Knights ahead 53-38. Martins secured her 1,000th career point with a free throw at the 3:26 mark, but Army was able to take a 59-41 lead into the final stanza.

The Mountain Hawks scored their first five points of the fourth quarter from the free throw line before a Devaney layup accounted for Lehigh's first field goal of the term at the 3:48 mark, but it wasn't nearly enough as Army earned the 69-49 win.

The Mountain Hawks wrap up the regular season Wednesday when Lehigh heads to Colgate for a 7 p.m. game. The outcome will help determine seeds for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. Free video of the game will be available on the Patriot League Network.
