
Lehigh returns home to host Colgate Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to stay hot down the final stretch of Patriot League play when the Mountain Hawks host Colgate Wednesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Lehightickets.com or by calling 610-7LU-GAME. The game will be aired locally on Service Electric Ch. 50 with free video also available on the Patriot League Network. Radio coverage will be live on 91.3 WLVR FM.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off a wire-to-wire 80-65 win at Lafayette Saturday in the team's most recent action. Junior Lexi Martins, sophomore Quinci Mann and senior Kerry Kinek combined for 55 of Lehigh's 80 points to help the Mountain Hawks snap a three-game losing streak and earn their first season sweep of Lafayette since the 2011-12 season. Martins tallied her 20th double-double of the season with a team-best 23 points and ten rebounds. Martins' performance came from a 10-for-16 showing from the field. Mann followed with 19 points, while Kinek chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds. Senior Elizabeth Sharlow followed with nine points and five rebounds. Classmate Amina Affini dished a team-best three assists.
Lehigh has averaged 67.5 points per game this season. The Mountain Hawks are shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 34.2 percent from three-point range and 71.7 percent from the free throw line. Lehigh also holds a +6.6 rebound margin.
Martins leads the nation with 14.0 rebounds per game and is just 25 boards away from breaking the Patriot League's single-season rebound record. The junior also leads the team with 14.9 points per game, while Mann follows 13.3 points per contest and a team-best 50 made three-pointers. Kinek has chipped in 11.6 points and 8.5 boards per game.
Colgate enters Wednesday's game in last place in the Patriot League standings with a 2-13 league record that is part of a 4-21 overall mark. The Raiders have lost eight straight games. Colgate's lone Patriot League wins came in the team's league opener at Lafayette (72-59) on Dec. 22 and at Boston University (72-63) on Jan. 20.
The Raiders most recently dropped a 55-38 contest at Loyola Saturday. Paige Kriftcher led Colgate with 12 points against the Greyhounds, while Katie Curtis followed with eight and Summer King chipped in seven. Mylah Chandler pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds. The Raiders shot just 20.8 percent (11-for-53) from the field and 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from three-point range at Loyola.
Colgate has been outscored by an average of 12.7 points per game this season, including a -10.0 scoring margin against Patriot League opponents. The Raiders are averaging 56.0 points per game and shooting 33.8 percent from the field, 27.5 percent from three-point range and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Kriftcher leads the team with 12.6 points per game and 43 made three-pointers. Josie Stockill follows with 11.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest. Ariel Etheridge has dished a team-best 69 assists.
Lehigh and Colgate will be meeting for the first time this season. The teams will meet again in Hamilton, N.Y. in the regular-season finale next Wednesday, March 2. The teams have split the last two regular-season series.
In a game that saw four lead changes and ten ties, Lehigh came out on the short end of a back-and-forth battle with Colgate, 61-60, in the most recent meeting on Feb. 28, 2015 inside Stabler Arena. Departed seniors Sarah Williams (16 points) and Katie O'Reilly (9 points) led Lehigh offensively. Kinek recorded eight points and seven rebounds and Martins contributed a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with her seven points. Mann dished out a team-best four assists.
The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 35.5 percent (22-for-62) from the field, 23.1 percent (3-for-13) from three-point range and 81.3 percent (13-for-16) from the free throw line. Colgate shot 36.8 percent from the floor (25-for-68) and 22.2 percent (2-for-9) from downtown. Each team recorded 44 rebounds.
