Mountain Hawk Men Have Solid Performance at Princeton Big Al Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team had a number of solid performances at the competitive two-day Big Al open hosted by Princeton University as action concluded on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks had nine individuals finish in the top-eight in their respected events and had four relay teams turn in top-five performances.

The 200 freestyle relay squad got things started on Friday night as Jacob Moyar, Zach Tieke, Jamal Willis and Justin White teamed up for a fourth place finish with a time of 1:25.92.

Competition continued on Friday as Justin White placed eighth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.17, while the 400 medley relay team consisting of Walker Wilson, Tyler Christ, Ryan Morgan and Justin White placed fifth with a time of 3:30.31.

As action began on Saturday, Moyar produced a strong performance in the 400 IM with a third place finish at a time of 4:06.05. White followed with an eighth place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.35.

Wilson turned in an eighth place finish in the 100 backstroke with at time of 53.03. Dean Shafritz placed ninth in the event with a time of 53.11.

Two different relay teams cracked the top-eight in the 800 freestyle relay event. Wilson, Tieke, Moyar and White placed fourth with a time of 7:01.96, while Danny Brooks, Tristan Stritzel, Shafritz and Justin Kostelnik placed eighth with a time of 7:12.49.

In the second session on Saturday, Moyar started off with a fifth place finish in the 1650 freestyle with at time of 16:29.16 and James Mauk placed sixth with a time of 16:38.26.

Tieke placed fifth in the 100 freestyle as Lehigh's top performer with a time of 46.68. Christ led Lehigh in the 200 breaststroke with at time of 2:12.81. Kostelnik finished as team's top performer in the 200 butterfly with seventh place finish at a time of 1:57.18.

Lehigh wrapped the weekend with the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Willis, Tieke, Wilson and White combined for a time of 3:10.54 to place fifth.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool on Friday when they travel to Easton, Pa. to face archrival Lafayette in a Patriot League dual meet. The rivalry is set to get underway at 6 p.m. from Weinstein Natatorium.
