History of the Lehigh-Lafayette Rivalry
EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team took down rival Lafayette for the 25th consecutive time on Friday evening at Weinstein Natatorium. The team won 11 of 14 events courtesy of seven different swimmers en route to a 170-92 victory. Freshman Walker Wilson set a new pool record in the 100 yard backstroke with is time of 51.39 seconds, and senior Jacob Moyar set a new school benchmark in the 100 yard IM (52.39).
The Mountain Hawks grabbed a pair of victories in relay events, including the 200 medley relay team of Moyar, Justin White, Wilson and Tyler Christ who all combined for a time of 1:34.47. The second win was courtesy of the 400 freestyle relay team of Zach Tieke, Moyar, Jamal Willis and White who finished with a time of 3:07.15.
The Mountain Hawks dominated by winning the other five freestyle events as well, courtesy of Willis in the 50 free (20.96), Tieke in the 100 free (45.78), White in the 200 free (1:42.05), Wilson in the 500 (4:39.14) and Nico Lastauskas in the 1,000 free event (9:42.55).
Lehigh earned another win from Wilson who bested the field of the 200 yard backstroke by touching the wall in 1:51.82 for one of his team-high four wins on the night. Christ also proved victorious in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.02).
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will be sending several swimmers to the AT&T U.S. Winter Nationals in Atlanta from Nov. 30 - Dec 2. The team's next dual meet will come on January 6 at Army West Point.
