
Lehigh hosts rival Lafayette Wednesday evening in Stabler Arena

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The rivalry hits the hardwood Wednesday night when the Lehigh women's basketball team hosts crosstown foe Lafayette inside Stabler Arena. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. and the game will serve as the first as a doubleheader as the Lehigh men's basketball team is set to take on Colgate at 7 p.m.

The contest will be aired live on Service Electric 2 Sports with free online video also available on the Patriot League Network. Tickets are available at Lehightickets.com or by calling 610-7LU-GAME. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, but postponed due to the winter storm that affected the Mid-Atlantic region.

The Mountain Hawks are in fourth place in the Patriot League standings with a 4-3 league record that is part of an 11-7 overall mark. Lehigh will be looking to claim its third-straight win after defeating Holy Cross 61-58 at home Sunday Jan. 17 and taking down Navy 51-48 on the road last Wednesday. In a game that saw 11 lead changes and four ties, the Mountain Hawks were able to come out on top of Wednesday's defensive battle at Navy to earn Lehigh's first victory over the Mids since Jan. 25, 2012.

Junior Lexi Martins secured her 14th double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds, including an offensive putback with 1:25 left in the game that gave Lehigh the lead for good. Sophomore Quinci Mann added 10 points to secure her 11th-straight double-digit scoring effort. Freshman Hailey Pascoe chipped in a career-high nine points, while senior Kerry Kinek tallied eight points and 12 rebounds. The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 34.6 percent (18-for-52) from the field, 33.3 percent (8-for-24) from three-point range and 50 percent (7-for-14) from the free throw line.

For the season, Martins leads Lehigh with 14.1 points per game and a 14.3 rebounds per contest clip that ranks second in all of Division I. Mann follows with 13.5 points per game, while Kinek has chipped in 12.7 points and 9.3 boards per contest.

Lafayette sits in a two-way tie for seventh place in the Patriot League standings with a 2-5 league record that is part of a 4-13 overall mark. The Leopards are coming off their first road win of the season, and second league win, as Lafayette beat American 60-51 in Washington, D.C. Wednesday night.

Jamie O'Hare had 15 points and a career-high eight assists, and Ashley Lutz matched a career-best with 15 rebounds to help the Leopards to a 60-51 win at defending Patriot League champions American. The Maroon and White snapped a 17-game road losing streak and registered the program's first-ever road win over the Eagles.

The Leopards' other league win came against Boston University on Jan. 9 as Lafayette defeated the Terriers 71-56. The Leopards have dropped league contests to Colgate (72-59), Loyola (66-65), Army West Point (78-45), Holy Cross (66-49) and Navy (65-58, OT). For the season, Lafayette has been outscored by an average of 7.3 points per game. O'Hare leads the team with 15.6 points per game, while Sammy Stipa follows with 8.0 tallies per contest.

Lehigh and Lafayette will be meeting for the 88th time in program history Wednesday. The Leopards hold a slim 44-43 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams have split the regular season meetings in each of the last three seasons.

The Mountain Hawks erased a half-time deficit to come back and take a second-half lead in the most recent meeting on Feb. 21, 2015 in Easton, Pa., but the Leopards were able to capture a 59-51 victory.
