Eversley resigns as Lehigh field hockey coach

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head field hockey coach Stacey Eversley has resigned after five seasons, as announced on Friday. Eversley cited family as the motivator beyond her decision.

"As my field hockey family continues to grow, my personal family has also grown during my tenure," said Eversley. "The time has come for me to focus on my two young children and husband."

"I know this was a very difficult decision for Stacey as she hasn't yet been able to enjoy all the fruits of her intensive labors to build our field hockey program," said Lehigh Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett. "She believes there is a lot of talent on her team, and the future is very bright. I share her belief. I am deeply grateful for the sacrifices Stacey and her husband have made on behalf of Lehigh field hockey, and hope that she will stay close to our program from her new home, especially when the foundation she created begins to yield the success she worked so hard to achieve."

In 2011, Eversley returned to Lehigh as head coach after previously serving as Lehigh's top assistant coach from 2007 to 2009. After a one-year stint as head coach at American International College, Eversley immediately led the Mountain Hawks to the Patriot League Tournament in 2011. Eversley's first victory came in dramatic fashion as the Mountain Hawks topped La Salle in overtime. Lehigh went on to earn the No. 3 seed in the league tournament, which included defeating eventual Patriot League finalist Bucknell during the regular season, 1-0.

The Mountain Hawks have picked up a number of quality victories in Eversley's tenure. During the 2013 season, Lehigh hung tough in every game, earning back-to-back shutouts over Towson and Georgetown and defeating a strong Lock Haven program. That season, Marissa Glatt finished second in the Patriot League in goals (12) and points (25) and was the only freshman named first team All-Patriot League.

The 2014 season was highlighted by a 4-1 stretch when Lehigh defeated Towson in overtime and beat Georgetown, Holy Cross and Sacred Heart in succession. The Mountain Hawks ended this past season on a high note, with two straight Patriot League road victories at Colgate and Holy Cross. Lehigh also took American to overtime and was competitive against Bucknell and eventual league champion Boston University. Lehigh held the Terriers to just three goals, tying for their lowest offensive output in a Patriot League game all season. Another freshman, Teresa Carotenuto, was named first team All-League after leading the team and tying for third in the league with 12 goals.

"I would like to thank administration and the university for the opportunity to coach such amazing young women," said Eversley. "I'd also like to thank our alumnae and all the members of Lehigh field hockey I've had the fortune of coaching. The program has such a promising future and I'm excited to see them all succeed next fall. I will always be a supporter as I have chosen to raise my family in Maryland. Lehigh field hockey and Lehigh athletics will always hold a special place in my heart."

Eversley will conclude her time at Lehigh at the end of January.
