Lehigh finishes seventh at Patriot League Championships Friday

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Lehigh women's rowing team tallied 16 points to finish seventh at the Patriot League Championships on the Cooper River Friday. The Varsity Four advanced to the Grand Finals while the Second Varsity Eight placed first in the Petite Finals and the Varsity Eight finished second in the Petite Finals.

"I think the team has made a lot of progress over the course of the year, but at the same time, our league has upped its level of competition as well," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "While we didn't see the results, we felt that as a team, we put out our best performances."

The Varsity Four placed third in its heat with a time of 8:26.4 before finishing in 8:37.3 in the Grand Finals to place sixth. After coming in fourth in its heat (7:17.9), the Mountain Hawks improved their time to win the Petite Finals (7:16.2). The Varsity Eight placed fourth in its heat of the Varsity Eight (7:10.31) while finishing second in the Petite Finals (7:05.9).

"I think the Varsity Four had a tremendous day overall," said Conley. "They were able to get themselves into the Grand Final and push the standard for the team moving forward. I think the Second Varsity Eight stepped up their game enough to show that they're a competitive group within the league. Both those crews did some outstanding things. The Varsity Eight had a good day, but it wasn't enough."

The Mountain Hawks finished ahead of Colgate (15 points) and Loyola (three points). Navy won the Patriot League Championship with 54 points, followed by Bucknell (48 points), Holy Cross (39), Boston University (39), Georgetown (27) and MIT (25).

"Overall, this was a tough year (in terms of results)," said Conley. "However, the things that we can hold onto are that we've changed the culture of the team into wanting to be the first ones to cross the finish line and really meaning that. I think we're all looking forward to what happens next year with that type of culture in place."
