Mountain Hawks drop 4-1 final to Navy in Patriot League Semifinals

VERONA, N.Y. - Playing in its first Patriot League Semifinal since 2009, the fourth-seeded Lehigh women's tennis team battled until the very end, dropping a tight 4-1 final to top seed Navy on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks' victory came from sophomore Jamie Campisi at No. 3 singles.

"We were right there," said Lehigh head coach Wouter Hendrix. "I give a lot of credit to Navy as they played outstanding tennis."

In doubles action, the Navy team of Amanda Keller and Summer Ralston defeated sophomore Cassidy Cruz and senior Abby Farrell at No. 2 singles, 8-3. Lehigh's No. 2 doubles team of Campisi and freshman Christina Auyeung responded with an 8-3 victory, but Navy's third doubles team rallied from down 6-4 to win 8-6 and earn the doubles point for the Midshipmen.

In singles action, Campisi quickly tied the score for the Mountain Hawks, winning 6-0, 7-5. However, Navy's Logan Antill took No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-3 to give her team a 2-1 lead in the match. The Mids followed with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to pick up the 4-1 victory. Auyeung and Farrell were leading at No. 1 and 6 singles, but their matches did not finish.

Lehigh ends a strong season with a 12-9 record, advancing to the Patriot League Semifinals for the first time in six seasons.

"I consider our season a success. Captain Abby Farrell provided excellent leadership all year and she was an inspiration to all of us," said Hendrix. "I also want to thank Coach Shook for preparing our women for the spring and doing a great job recruiting prior to his retirement. This was a great learning experience for our young group. The loss will hurt for a long time, but we'll be back hungrier than ever next year."
