BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh rowing team looks to continue the momentum from its recent success when the Mountain Hawks compete in the Kerr Cup Saturday on the Schuylkill River. Saturday marks the last regatta until the championship races - the Dad Vail Regatta and Patriot League Championships - in May.
Â
"This is our last test before heading into championship regattas and we need to continue to show more speed as it will have a huge impact on seedings for heats," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley.
Â
Last season at the Kerr Cup, every Mountain Hawks' boat made the grand finals as Lehigh's Men's Varsity Eight had the team's highest finish (second) ahead of Fordham, Franklin & Marshall and La Salle while only trailing Drexel.
"We want all boats to not just make the finals, but to also be competitive within those finals," said Conley. "We have shown we can make it to the finals now and next step is competing within them."
Â
Last weekend, four men's crews advanced to the finals (two to the grand finals and two to the petite finals).
Â
Saturday is a big race for several reasons, especially being the last opportunity to compete before the big regattas in May.
"The women have been racing at a very high level all spring semester and last weekend, they were able to hang with some very fast crews," said Conley. "The men have really come on strong and I'm excited to see where both squads end up this weekend."Â
After this weekend's racing, the Mountain Hawks return to action at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on May 8 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Â
