
Mountain Hawks return home to host Loyola Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to rebound from a tough loss at Army when the Mountain Hawks return to the friendly confines of Stabler Arena Saturday at 2 p.m. to host Loyola. Lehigh will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day and the first 75 youth girls in attendance will receive free t-shirts. Saturday's game will be televised by Service Electric 2 Sports and the Patriot League Network with live audio coverage available on 91.3 WLVR.

Lehigh erased an early 13-point deficit, but couldn't complete the effort as the Mountain Hawks fell 66-62 Wednesday night at Army. The Black Knights used a 16-for-19 (84.2 percent) showing from the free throw line and 14-9 edge on the offensive glass to snap the Mountain Hawks' three-game win streak.

Junior Kerry Kinek led the way for Lehigh with 15 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Lexi Martins and freshman Quinci Mann both chipped in ten points. Senior Sarah Williams contributed nine points, while junior Amina Affini posted eight in a balanced team attack. Senior Katie O'Reilly led the squad with three assists.

The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 42.4 percent (19-for-45) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from three-point range and 69.2 percent (18-for-26) from the free throw line. Army went 39 percent (23-for-59) from the field and 26.7 percent (4-for-15) from downtown. The Black Knights held a 35-32 rebound advantage.

Martins leads the team with 15.3 points and a league-best 11.2 rebounds per game. Kinek follows with 12.1 points and 7.7 boards per contest, while O'Reilly has tallied 11.4 points per contest. The Mountain Hawks currently lead the Patriot League in scoring offense (71.6 ppg) and rank second in scoring margin (+6.4), field goal percentage (43.8 percent), three-point field goal percentage (33.3 percent) and rebound margin (+6.9).

Loyola carries a 6-16 overall record and 4-7 Patriot League mark into today's contest and is currently tied for seventh in the league standings. The Greyhounds have lost their last two games and four of their last five.

Loyola put up a good fight against first-place American in its most recent action Wednesday night, but the Greyhounds' comeback attempt fell short as the Eagles claimed a 55-44 victory.

Junior Colleen Marshall led Loyola with 13 points, while junior Jeneh Perry added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Loyola's Patriot League wins this season have come against Navy (55-49), Lehigh (64-52), Boston University (63-53) and Holy Cross (57-51). The Greyhounds currently rank last in the league in scoring offense (52.0 ppg), scoring margin (-11.7), free throw percentage (63.3 percent), field goal percentage (33.5 percent), field goal percentage defense (43.4 percent), three-point field goal percentage (27.4 percent), rebounding margin (-8.1) and assists (9.3). Marshall leads the squad with 13 points per game, while freshman Bri Betz-White follows with 9.8 per contest.

In the season's first meeting on Jan. 10 in Baltimore, the Mountain Hawks struggled offensively and Loyola was able to hand Lehigh its first Patriot League loss of the season in the form of a 64-52 defeat.

The Greyhounds were 39.7 percent (23-for-58) from the floor and 35 percent from downtown (7-for-20). The Mountain Hawks won the battle of the boards 47-33, including a 19-6 edge on the offensive glass. Loyola was led by Diana Logan with 20 points.
