ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh men's track and field team finished in fifth place at the three-day indoor Patriot League Championship meet that wrapped up Sunday at Navy's Wesley A. Brown Field House. Freshman Trevor Knowles earned Rookie of the Meet honors while the Lehigh men finished the meet with two event titles (heptathlon and high jump), and three second-place finishes (long jump, triple jump, 4x400 meter relay).
"I love the way the league has developed," said head coach Matt Utesch. "It's been very interesting to watch the league move into a very competitive field. It's such an exciting meet, which is the way track and field ought to be. I'm very proud and happy for our team and how they did.
"We asked our kids to come out and do something they've never done before, and we saw it time and time again," continued Utesch. "It's becoming the culture of our team. On the last throw, jump or meet at the line we beat out other teams because our kids layed it all on the line, which reveals the tremendous character and competitiveness of our kids."
Knowles was named the Rookie of the Meet after winning the heptathlon, making him the first-ever Lehigh male to win the award at the indoor championship.
"He has such a promising future and he's a great ambassador of Lehigh," said Utesch of Knowles. "He really loves Lehigh and now he's representing the university and his family in a fashion that is so classy and super competitive. I'm looking forward to the next four years with him."
Host Navy claimed the team crown with 228.50 points, while Bucknell (146.25), Boston University (136), Army (104) and Lehigh (101) rounded out the top five.

Isaac also took home fifth place in the 60 meter hurdles with a clip of 8.39 seconds to secure four team points.
Lehigh's 4x400 meter relay team of seniors Justin Mahoney, Christopher Watson and Sebastian Nicewicz and sophomore Christopher Del Rossi finished second with an IC4A-qualifying clip of 3:17.74.
Sophomore Lucas Warning claimed third place in the shot put with a personal-best and IC4A qualifying heave of 16.81 meters to grab six team points for the Mountain Hawks.
