BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team will head to Annapolis, Md. this weekend to compete in the three-day Patriot League Championship meet inside Navy's Wesley A. Brown Field House. The action begins Friday at 12 p.m. and will continue through Sunday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks will be searching for their first-ever Patriot League Championship.
The Mountain Hawks put up 105.50 points at last year's indoor championship, finishing behind first-place Navy (201.83), Bucknell (173), Army (135.33) and Boston University (109).
The Mountain Hawk men have impressed all season long. Lehigh dominated archrival Lafayette 120-61 on Jan. 17 in the annual dual meet before the Mountain Hawks put together a number of impressive showings at the Armory Invitational, Giegengack Invite and Bucknell Tune-Up.
Senior Adeolu Adesida will be looking to defend his high jump title after finishing first in the event in each of the last two indoor championship meets. Adesida holds the top mark in the Patriot League, and 29th-best jump in the nation, this season with a leap of 2.15 meters. He earned Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week recognition three times this season.
Other Mountain Hawks who hold top-five Patriot League marks this season include freshman Trevor Knowles in the heptathlon (second – 4,666), sophomore Lucas Warning in the shot put (fourth – 16.53m), senior Derek Gaul in the long jump (fourth –7.02m), freshman Fritz Isaac in the 60 meter hurdles (fifth – 8.31), and senior Ryan Mahalsky in the 5,000 meter run (fifth – 14:28.91).
First team All-Patriot League status goes to the winners of each event, while second-place finishers comprise the second-team All-League squads. Head coaches will vote following the conclusion of the championship on Male and Female Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coach of the Year honors. A full schedule of events is listed below.
After Sunday, those that have qualified from the Mountain Hawks' squad will compete at the IC4A Championships at Boston University for a chance to advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships. The IC4As will be held March 6-8.
