PHILADELPHIA - The Lehigh rowing team enjoyed success at Navy Day on the Schuylkill River Saturday, highlighted by some strong finishes against a large number of teams. Following a regatta against just Bucknell and Drexel last weekend, Lehigh faced a different challenge at Navy Day, which included an opportunity to compete against multiple Patriot League crews.

"I thought we had one of our best days of racing we've ever had at this regatta," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "I think we went out there, set some really good strong goals and achieved many of them. We also left with some stuff still to work on."

Lehigh impressed in the morning to set the tone for the day. The Mountain Hawks' first race featured the Men's Collegiate Four finishing in fifth place out 12 crews with a time of 14:48.66. The Women's Collegiate Four then came in 10th place out of more than 20 boats with a time of 16:57.65.

"Our morning races in the fours definitely showed us that we're making the right sorts of changes on the water," said Conley. "In terms of the eights, the freshmen women really stepped up again to show quite a bit of speed."

Lehigh's Women's Freshmen Eight finished in fifth place out of more than 10 crews, posting a time of 15:51.58 and finishing ahead of boats from Navy, Saint Joseph's and Maryland.

"One of the things we talked a lot about this week is taking ownership of our own actions and being prepared," said Conley. "That's the biggest thing we walked away with in this regatta. Each boat and every individual took ownership and pride in their preparation for each of their races."

The Mountain Hawks will now have several weeks off from racing, which will give them an opportunity to try some different things.

"I think the next few weeks will allow us to change things up on the team," said Conley. "It'll allow us to see what different lineups can jell together, maybe get ourselves a little bit more cohesive as a team with mixed lineups, too. We want to keep developing as an entire team, rather than by boat."

Lehigh will return to the water for its next regatta on Saturday, Nov. 7.
