
Lehigh heads to Army for Wednesday evening showdown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a pair of tough losses to begin Patriot League play, the Lehigh men's basketball team searches for its first league victory when it travels to Army on Wednesday. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Boston University got off to a fast start on Saturday and the Mountain Hawks made a late first-half run, but the Terriers proved too much in a 75-56 final.
Sophomore Tim Kempton led the Mountain Hawks in points (13) and rebounds (7) while classmate Austin Price also added double-figure points with ten. He grabbed a career-high six rebounds along with two assists and two steals. Senior Corey Schaefer tallied six points, four assists and three rebounds while freshman Tyler Jenkins, sophomore Miles Simelton and junior Jesse Chuku each scored five points. The Terriers knocked down 14-of-25 three-pointers (56 percent) as Lehigh opponents have now hit 34-of-65 (52 percent) from long range over the last three games.
Boston University jumped out to an early 19-4 lead midway through the first half. The Mountain Hawks pulled back within seven late in the first, but the Terriers ended the half on a 6-0 run and Lehigh didn't score the final 2:51. Boston University continued the momentum into the second half, eventually opening a 73-37 lead with 7:01 on the clock. However, the Mountain Hawks continued to battle, ending the game on a 19-2 run, including the last 15 points. Jenkins scored five points late to help spark the strong finish.
Prior to Saturday's game, Lehigh had won four of its previous five road games. With the loss, the Mountain Hawks fall to 0-2 in league play for the first time since 2008-09. There have been some surprise teams in the Patriot League so far, with Colgate and Navy (predicted #8 and #10) at 2-0. Wednesday's opponent, Army, is 10-3 on the season and 1-1 in league play, falling to Lafayette at home before beating Loyola.
Lehigh beat Army five straight games from 2011-13, but the Black Knights have responded to win the last two. Wednesday's game features the two Patriot League schools who defeated BCS conference foes in the nonleague slate. The Mountain Hawks defeated DePaul out of the Big East and Arizona State of the Pac-12 while the Black Knights topped USC of the Pac-12.

The Black Knights are 5-2 at home, falling to Bryant and Lafayette, while their other loss came at Duke. Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Kyle Wilson leads the way averaging 20.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Tanner Plomb averages 13.0 points and 4.8 rebounds while Kevin Ferguson comes in at 10.2 points and 6.2 boards. Dylan Cox leads the team in assists, holding a 4.5 average. Army leads the Patriot League in scoring, holding a 79.2 average. The Black Knights are shooting .466 from the field, eclipsing 75 points on eight occasions this season.

The game at Stabler arena was extremely close with the Black Knights winning by three, then Army controlled play up at West Point. Prior to last season, the Mountain Hawks had won five straight and eight of the previous nine. The first meeting between the sides came in 1906-07 season, a 26-24 Lehigh victory. Army won the next game (in 1914-15) by a 19-6 final.
