BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team turned out several impressive performances in a busy weekend at the Armory Invitational in New York City and the 23rd Annual John Covert Classic inside Rauch Fieldhouse. The Mountain Hawks recorded two IC4A-qualifying marks at the Armory, while earning four first-place finishes at the Covert Classic.

"We had over 30 personal records this weekend, so coming off an intense dual meet it was nice to see the team continue to improve and give it all they have," said head coach Matt Utesch. "The kids really stepped up this weekend, both at home and against some of the nation's best competition at the Armory Invitational. I'm happy with the way the team is progressing as we move closer to Patriot League Championships."

Senior Ryan Mahalsky ran the 5,000 meter race in an IC4A-qualifying time of 14:28.91 that was good for fourth place at the Armory Invite. Juniors Evan Ward (14:58.84) and Sean Burke (15:00.45) also placed in the top 20, finishing 15th and 20th, respectively. Junior Adeolu Adesida turned out another IC4A-qualifying high jump with a 2.04 meter leap. The Distance Medley Relay team of seniors Mitchell Biler and Simon Voorhees and freshmen John Tolbert and Ryan Grace finished sixth with a mark of 10:18.59.

"Mahalsky is another guy who is a super competitor and we're really happy with what he's been doing," said Utesch.

Also at the Armory, senior Simon Voorhees finished 17th in the mile run with a time of 4:17.34, while sophomore Chris Del Rossi continued to impress and finished the 400 meter race in 23rd place with a personal record time of 49.53 seconds. Senior Christopher Watson placed 22nd in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.86. Senior Sebastian Nicewicz was Lehigh's top finisher in the 500 meter run, placing 24th with a mark of 1:06.52. Classmate Stephen Keith picked up a 19th place in the 1,000 meter run after racing to the finish line in 2:29.04. Senior Nicholas Ward ran 3,000 meters in 8:35.95 to claim 26th place.

Freshman James Chappell earned the 1,000 meter run title with a time of 2:38.76.

"Our triple jumpers continue to come along very nicely and I'm super happy with the way they're progressing so far this season," said Utesch.

Lehigh's 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Ryan Cooney and freshmen Christopher Mascetti, Henry Paul and James Chappell took first place with a mark of 8:25.71.
