BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a tough finish against Loyola at home, the Lehigh men's basketball team looks to continue its road success when it travels to our nation's capital to face American University on Wednesday. Opening tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Mountain Hawks have won five of their last seven road games overall, including a league victory at Army last Wednesday.

Lehigh got off to a slow start against the Greyhounds on Saturday, falling behind by as much as 16 (33-17) late in the first half. The Mountain Hawks immediately staged a 10-0 run bridging the end of the first half and beginning of the second. Lehigh eventually pulled ahead 50-48 following a Tim Kempton layup, but American scored nine points (three three-pointers) in the span of 1:04 to take a five-point, 57-52 lead with 3:53 on the clock. Lehigh attempted to come back, but couldn't pull any closer than one the rest of the way. Kempton led the team in both points (14) and rebounds (eight) before fouling out. Junior Justin Goldsborough was strong on both ends of the floor, scoring 11 points to go with six rebounds and a career-high six blocks. Freshman Kahron Ross tallied 11 points, a career-high six rebounds, five assists and three steals to earn his third Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor.

The loss dropped the Mountain Hawks' home record to 2-5, but they're 5-4 on the road. Lehigh has picked up impressive road victories this season, at DePaul (currently 3-1 in the Big East), Arizona State out of the Pac-12 (who won 21 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season) and Army (who is 10-5 overall and was predicted second in the preseason Patriot League poll).

On Saturday, the Patriot League became the first Division I conference without an undefeated team, or winless team. Both Boston University and Colgate lost while Holy Cross won. Four of the five games on Saturday went down to the wire, including two that went into overtime.

American has struggled a bit this season after a Patriot League Championship campaign in 2013-14. The Eagles returned most of their players, but did lose center Tony Wroblicky who was a key part of the team. American finished last season 20-13, defeating Boston University 55-36 in the title game. Lehigh lost both games to American last season, but that included a slim 65-63 defeat in a January contest which was anybody's game down the stretch. Last game was at American and featured Austin Price scoring 20 points.

The defending Patriot League Champions, American enters with a 9-7 overall record and 2-2 mark in league play. The Eagles have lost at Bucknell and Loyola while winning their home games versus Holy Cross and Colgate. Jesse Reed leads the team in scoring with 14.0 points per game (to go with a team-leading 5.6 rebounds). Preseason All-Patriot League honoree Pee Wee Gardner averages 10.8 points and 3.2 assists at the point guard position while John Schoof has averaged 11.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. The Eagles play at one of the slowest paces in all of Division I and that's led to just 53.6 points per game (last in the Patriot League). However, American has given up the fewest points per game (54.1).

American has won the last two meetings to take a 24-18 lead in the all-time series. The Mountain Hawks had won three straight and four of the previous five. Lehigh and American have a storied history, playing multiple times in the Patriot League Tournament. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Eagles 85-66 in the league semifinals during their 2012 Patriot League Championship season. Lehigh also topped American in the 2004 Patriot League Title Game.

The Mountain Hawks return home to host Holy Cross on Saturday. Opening tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
