
Mountain Hawks travel to Rhode Island and Brown this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will look to build upon a strong 2-1 start to the season when the team takes a weekend road trip to New England. The Mountain Hawks kick off the weekend at Rhode Island on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Brown in a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off their first loss of the season to the Stony Brook Seawolves last Friday night. An own goal in the 43rd minute put Lehigh down 1-0 before the Seawolves were able to score two more. Lehigh held a 16-10 shot advantage, led by freshman Jack Miskel with four shots. Senior goalkeeper Ciaran Nugent finished with four saves. Junior Jamie Luchini leads the Mountain Hawks with two goals so far this season, while junior Austin Decker and senior Ali Famili have each scored one.
Rhode Island enters Friday's contest with a 1-2-1 record and is coming off a 3-0 loss to Boston College. The Rams are led by redshirt junior Mike Casey and redshirt freshman Dante Lamb. Casey leads the team in points with four and has recorded two goals on the year. Lamb, a native of South Africa, is second in points with three after recording all three in one game against NJIT. Freshman goalkeeper Nils Leifhelm has a GAA of 1.86 with nine saves. Lehigh's last and only meeting with Rhode Island resulted in a 1-1 draw in 2006.
Brown is coming off an impressive 1-0 win against Boston University last weekend that improved its record to 1-1. The Bears return three All-Ivy selections from last year including first team All-Ivy midfielder Tariq Akeel who led the Bears in scoring last season and tallied 16 points. Senior goalkeeper Mitch Kupstas has posted a GAA of 1.00 and has collected three saves in Brown's two games this season. Brown will host Providence on Friday before taking on Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks are 0-3-1 all-time against Brown with the last match ending 1-0 in favor of the Bears.
Following this weekend, Lehigh will return home on September 19th to host Stetson on Friday Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
