BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's soccer played its final non-league game of the regular season on Tuesday evening from the Ulrich Sports Complex against the Brown Bears. The Mountain Hawks scored the game's opening goal but ultimately fell 3-1.
"It was a disappointing performance," said Ingrassia Family men's head soccer coach Dean Koski. "I didn't think we came out to compete to win. Our guys may have looked past this match, which is disappointing, particularly for our upperclassmen. It's important that we get results and compete, but we did not show up with intentions of competing."
Lehigh (4-4-5, 4-0-1 PL) opened its account early in the first half, as sophomore Bridger Baltes headed in a goal off a corner kick with assists from junior Paul Smajlaj and first-year Alex Junquera. Brown (5-4-2, 0-2-1 Ivy) equalized in the 21st minute when Carlo Brown got past junior goalkeeper Anton Kinnunen and scored on an empty net, sending the game to halftime tied 1-1.
The tie would not be broken until the 71st minute of action when Brown's Mateo Pereyra scored off Mathias Hille's assist to give the Bears a 2-1 advantage. The Bears then added an additional goal of insurance in the 87th minute to secure a two-goal advantage.
Baltes, first-year Vito Braun, and junior Aiden Gonzalez recorded shots for Lehigh while Kinnunen made three saves on the night.
The Mountain Hawks return to Patriot League play on Saturday, October 17 at 7 p.m. on the road at Bucknell.
