BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's lacrosse team remains home for a second straight game when it welcomes Holy Cross on Saturday for a Patriot League showdown. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. and will air locally on Service Electric 2 Sports (and streamed online through the Patriot League Network). The Mountain Hawks are 4-1 at home with two home games remaining - vs. Holy Cross and Colgate.
Lehigh is coming off a 13-7 win against Monmouth on Wednesday to improve to 7-3 overall. After taking a 7-5 halftime lead, the Mountain Hawks outscored Monmouth 3-1 in the third quarter and 3-1 in the fourth to erase any doubt. A balanced effort saw five Mountain Hawks post double-figure points led by a career-high four goals and five points from sophomore Reid Weber. Sophomore Alex Eaton posted a career-high four points (two goals, two assists) while junior Patrick Corbett added his eighth-career hat trick.
Junior Dan Taylor had a goal and two assists, his seventh multi-point game of the season. He enters Saturday needing just five points for 100 in his career. Junior Alan Henderson also scored a career-high two goals to go with an assist. Freshman Casey McAdam impressed at the faceoff X, winning 17-of-23 with 12 groundballs, a career high in all three categories. Defensively, sophomore Tripp Telesco continues to post big numbers, finishing with five groundballs and five caused turnovers to reach 28 and 22 in those categories, respectively. Sophomore Steve Brodeur made his first start of the season in goal as junior Matt Poillon was given the night off. Brodeur made six saves to pick up his first-career win.
With its 3-2 record, Lehigh is currently tied for fourth place in the Patriot League standings, behind Loyola (4-0), Colgate (3-1) and Army (3-1). If the Mountain Hawks win their final three league games (Holy Cross, Colgate and Lafayette), they will finish no worse than third and could still move into one of the top two seeds, which would mean a bye into the Patriot League Semifinals.
Lehigh has impressed at home this season, standing 4-1. The Mountain Hawks have won eight of their last nine at home dating back to last year.
Holy Cross is 2-7 on the season and 0-4 in the Patriot League, coming off an impressive 13-8 win at Hartford. Holy Cross has hung tough against some strong teams, including a pair of two-goal defeats to nationally-ranked teams, an 11-9 loss to Fairfield and 15-13 defeat to St. John's. The Crusaders are led offensively by Terry McKenna who has a team-leading 20 goals and 25 points. Sean Wilkinson is second with 23 points via 13 goals and 10 assists. Clay Haarmann has 18 points (11 goals, seven assists) and Kevin Lux owns 13 (eight goals, five assists). Ben Williams has impressed at the faceoff X, winning 116-of-213 faceoffs (54.5 percent) with a team-leading 54 groundballs. Lux and Kyle Kadlick have a team-leading six caused turnovers apiece. Michael Ortlieb has started all nine games in goal and has a 13.97 GAA and 40.7 save percentage.
Lehigh owns a dominating 23-0 lead in the all-time series. The sides first met in 1991. Last season, the Mountain Hawks picked up an 8-5 win and defeated Holy Cross at home two years ago, 12-3.
The Mountain Hawks will remain home next Saturday (Apr. 5) to host Colgate in their final regular season home game. It's Senior Day as the Lehigh seniors will be recognized prior to opening faceoff. The game was originally scheduled for Goodman Stadium but has been moved to the Ulrich Sports Complex due to field conditions following a cold and snow-filled winter.
