BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to win its sixth consecutive Senior Night game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when the Mountain Hawks host rival Lafayette. The contest will be broadcast live in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric 2 Sports (Ch. 50) and for free online via the Patriot League Network.
Â
First-place Navy used strong three-point shooting and several large runs to capture a 79-59 win over the Lehigh women's basketball team Wednesday evening in Annapolis. Â
Lafayette's win over Lehigh in the first half of Patriot League play sparked a four-game win streak for the Leopards, but Lafayette has slowed down as of late, dropping three of its last four contests.
Â
The Leopards' most recent loss came at home to Holy Cross on Wednesday evening, 90-76. Junior Emily Homan's double-double (19 pts., 11 reb.) wasn't enough to slow down a Holy Cross squad that won its third straight game. The Leopards cut the Crusader lead to five late in the second half, but Holy Cross was able to pull away for the 14-point win.
Â
The Leopards moved to 7-8 in Patriot League play and had four players in double figures led by Homan's 19. Linnel Macklin finished with 17 points, while Kelly Loughney chipped in 15 points off the bench. Fahan was the final player in double figures with 10 points.
Â
Homan leads the Leopard squad with an average of 14.1 points per game and ranks second in the league with a 54.4 field goal percentage. Senior Danielle Fiacco averages a team-leading seven rebounds per contest and also leads the league in blocks, tallying 3.0 per game.
Â
Lafayette's 29.3 three-point shooting percentage ranks worst in the league, but the Leopards average a league-leading 42.7 rebounds and 5.2 blocks per game.
Â
The Leopards hold a slim 43-41 all-time advantage over the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh looks to narrow Lafayette's lead to one game tonight inside Stabler Arena. Prior to Lafayette's win in Easton last month, Lehigh had won five of the previous six contests between the two teams.
Â
Lafayette claimed the first meeting of the season, 73-51, in Easton. The Leopards led 39-18 at halftime and the Mountain Hawks were never able to recover. Lafayette's win sparked a four-game Leopard winning streak.
Â
Yantzi recorded a career-high seven blocks in the contest, while also tossing in six points. Junior Katie O'Reilly finished with 11 points, while Kinek chipped in ten. Lafayette's Homan scored a game-high 23 points, following by Madeline Fahan with 15 and a game-best nine rebounds.
Â
Lehigh finished the game shooting just 27.3 percent (18-for-66) from the field, compared to Lafayette's 35.3 percentage (24-for-68). The Leopards shot 22-for-24 from the free throw line, including a perfect 14-for-14 in the first half.
Â
Following Saturday night's game, Lehigh remains home Monday to host Army at 7 p.m. in a rescheduled game from earlier this season. The Mountain Hawks will then host Bucknell Wednesday at 7 p.m. before travelling to Colgate Saturday for the final game of the regular season.
