
Lehigh heads to league newcomer Boston University for Sunday matinee

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team will be searching for its second Patriot League win in as many games when the Mountain Hawks head to league newcomer Boston University on Sunday at 1 p.m. The two squads have met three times in the past, but Lehigh has yet to claim a win over the Terriers. The game can be viewed for free via the Patriot League Network.

After closing out December with back-to-back losses, the Mountain Hawks responded with a win over Colgate inside Stabler Arena on Thursday evening. The 76-69 victory led Lehigh to a win in its Patriot League opener for the third straight season.

The Mountain Hawks found themselves down by a point with 12:18 left to play until Lehigh erupted with 17 unanswered points that Colgate could never recover from. Lehigh finished the game shooting 39.1 percent (27-for-69) from the field, highlighted by a 56.3 percent (18-for-32) second half. The Raiders finished the game 37.0 percent (27-for-73) from the field and 27.6 percent (8-for-29) from behind the arc. Lehigh held a 52-42 rebound advantage, tying its season high rebounding margin.

Sophomore Kerry Kinek led the way for the Mountain Hawks with 19 points and seven rebounds. The Whitehall, Pa. native has now increased her double-digit scoring streak to 14 games dating back to last season. Freshman Kayla Burton contributed a career-high 15 points behind three big second-half three-pointers. Junior Sarah Williams dished a season-high six assists while also adding a team-leading eight rebounds.

The Terriers look to claim their first ever Patriot League win when Lehigh enters Case Gym on Sunday. The league newcomer dropped its first Patriot League contest at Holy Cross on Thursday by a score of 69-59.

Down 16 with 8:11 to play, the Terriers pulled within three points but were unable to complete a comeback at Holy Cross. Three players scored in double-digits for BU, led by senior Rashidat Agboola's 18 points. Sophomore Clodagh Scannell added a career-best 13 points while freshman Meghan Green, the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week, posted her first career double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds). Senior Melissa Gallo added nine points, all of which came in the second half.

BU shot 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the floor and after going 0-for-9 from beyond the arc in the first half, the Terriers finished with a 28.6 percent 3-point clip (6-of-21). The team also shot 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from the free throw line.

Agboola leads the Terriers with 11.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

Lehigh and BU have played three previous contests, but the Terriers have been victorious in all three.

The most recent meeting between the two squads took place on Dec. 30, 2012 in the Christmas City Classic championship game inside Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks rallied several times during the evening, but 12 three-pointers from the Terriers helped Boston University to the dominant 72-42 win.

Lindsay Hoskins was the only Mountain Hawk to score in double-digits, with 11 points as well as a team-leading eight rebounds. The Terriers had four players in double-figures, led by Mo Moran with 16 and Rashidat Agboola with 15.

Lehigh finished the game shooting 26.2 percent, while Boston shot 43.5 percent and 38.7 percent from behind the arc.
