BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh hosted the 37th-annual Brooks-Paul Short Run on Friday at the Goodman Campus and came away with a 24th-place finish in the women's 6K Gold race and a 32nd-place finish in the men's 8K Gold race. Members of both Mountain Hawk teams enjoyed strong performances as junior Katherine Pierce (38th place overall) led Lehigh's women and senior Evans Kosgei (45th overall) paced the men's squad.

Georgetown captured the women's team title with 34 points as all seven Hoyas finished in the top 20 individually. Virginia finished second followed by James Madison, Cornell and Columbia. On the men's side the top two were reversed with Virginia taking the title with 132 points, followed by Georgetown, William & Mary, Dartmouth and the University of Guelph from Canada.
Pierce finished with a time of 21:22, earning top honors among Mountain Hawk women in the 6K Gold race. She was joined in Lehigh's lineup by freshman Jessica Kendzor who finished in 110th place with a time of 22:17. Also competing were senior Andrea Mascaro (160 – 22:47), freshman Hannah Pierce (166 – 22:48), senior Kaitlin Grimm (178 – 22:55), junior Carolyn Morse (211 – 23:15) and junior Megan Hetzel (214 – 23:19).

"Our goal was to finish in the top 25, so we feel good about that," women's coach Debbie Utesch said. "The way we did it was not as I expected, though. I think we were coming out of a tough training cycle with three races in the last three weeks so we were not on fresh legs. We were solid but there is room for improvement."
Georgetown junior Emily Infeld took top honors in the women's 6K Gold race, finishing in 20:04, six seconds faster than Colgate's Elise DeRoo. Alison Parris of James Madison finished third.
Kosgei crossed the finish line in 24:51 to lead the Lehigh men. Other Mountain Hawks who competed in the men's 8K Gold race included freshman Jimmy Miller, who finished 107th with a time of 25:14, Senior Andrew Jervis who placed 173rd (25:40), junior Evan Flach (217 – 26:02), junior Dan Soltan (260 – 26:30), senior Kyle O'Connor (279 – 27:04) and freshman Russ Vignali (283 – 27:14).

"Evans ran really well up against the top 50," men's coach Todd Etters said. "We have a whole month to keep training with him so I know he will only get better. Since I've been at Lehigh, Jimmy Miller's time is the fastest a freshman has put up at the Paul Short Run. He just keeps getting it done."
Liberty's Sam Chelanga, the 2008 winner of the men's 8K, captured his second Paul Short individual title with a time of 23:34, the second-fastest time in meet history. Virginia's Emil Heineking took second, 15 seconds behind Chelanga, while Richmond's Andrew Benford placed third.
