Lehigh leads Patriot League Championship after opening 36 holes

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team is looking to win its first Patriot League Championship since 1997 and the Mountain Hawks will take a seven stroke lead into the final round after shooting two sub-300 rounds Saturday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks carded rounds of 299 and 296 to sit at 595 after the first 36 holes of play.
Navy is in second place at 602. The Midshipmen followed an opening round 308 but carded a 294, the lowest team round of the day, in the afternoon.
Individually, sophomore Carlos Kim and junior Alex DiClemente were Lehigh's top performers on day one with 36 hole scores of three over par 147. DiClemente held the 18 hole lead as the only player under par with a one under 71 in the morning, but carded a 76 in the afternoon. Kim opened with a 75 and then shot even par 72 in the second round. His 72 was the low round in the afternoon, matched by two players from Navy.
Freshman Harley Abrams is the third Mountain Hawk in the top ten individually as he is tied for sixth place. Abrams overcame front nine struggles in round one to finish at 76 and then shot 74 in the afternoon to sit at 150.
Lehigh's other two entrants are senior Sean Keller and junior Andrew Arnold. Both players opened with rounds of 77. Keller shot 80 in the afternoon to tie for 17th at 157, while Arnold shot 81 and is tied for 22nd at 158.
Army's Marcus Plunkett holds the 36 hole lead at one over par 72-73-145. Navy's Chris House is second, one shot back, while Kim and DiClemente are two shots off the pace.
In the team race, Army is third behind Lehigh and Navy at 308-301-609, followed in order by Bucknell, Lafayette, Holy Cross and Colgate.
The Patriot League Championship concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes of play on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. First tee times are set for 8 a.m.
