BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team (18-20) concluded a six-game home stand with a 13-2 loss to Penn (21-14) on Wednesday at the Goodman Campus.

Lehigh trailed from the first inning on with the Quakers batting around against freshman starter Kevin Boswick and jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Sophomore Josh Flyer got around a leadoff double and a hit batter to throw scoreless second inning, but it would be one of only three frames where Penn failed to score.

“Sometimes in the midweek game you'll see teams gaining some confidence that seems to roll through their whole lineup,” Lehigh head coach Sean Leary said. “They swung the bats exceptionally well today, we didn't hit our spots and I give them a lot of credit.”

The long ball hurt the Mountain Hawks in the game, as Austin Bossart hit a three run homer and Rick Brebner smacked two-run shots in the fourth and fifth innings that created an 11-0 hole for Lehigh.

The Brown and White had a base runner in seven different innings, but only managed to score one run in the fifth and sixth. Sophomore Pat Walshe scored on an error by Bossart and sophomore John Elson hit an RBI double off Cody Thomson that drove in sophomore Tim McKay, respectively.

Sophomore Justin Pacchioli went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Walshe had a pair of hits after coming in to play third base in the sixth inning. Michael Vilardo went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, two of which came on a two-run single in the fourth inning. Brebner finished the game 4-for-5 with a game-high five RBI.

Cody Thomson earned the win after throwing six innings, surrendering just two runs and six hits while striking out four batters. Six different pitchers took the mound for Lehigh with Boswick taking the loss. Freshman Joe Kotler held Penn scoreless over the final two innings, striking out the side in the ninth inning.

The Mountain Hawks will travel to Holy Cross on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of Patriot League doubleheaders beginning at 12 p.m. Lehigh will then play its final non-league game of the regular season at Seton Hall at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
