BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After experiencing a mix of emotions from a heartbreaking defeat and one-sided victory at arch rival Lafayette, the Lehigh women's and men's track and field teams will split between the Pollard Invite and Bison Outdoor Classic. The Pollard Invite kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday at Moravian while the Bison Outdoor Classic gets underway at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bucknell.

Lehigh's women's team fell to the Leopards 102-101 to end an indoor and outdoor winning streak against Lafayette that dated back to 2008. The Mountain Hawks had a senior sweep in the 800 meter run with Julia Perry (2:15.97) finishing in first followed by Kathleen Ryan (2:16.12) and Brittany Pietrosh (2:16.62). Sophomore Serenah Polite won the long and triple jumps, registering distances of 5.36 meters and 11.59 meters, respectively.

The men's team avenged a 91-89 indoor defeat with a 119-84 outdoor victory at Lafayette Saturday. Senior Devin Monroe registered a first place finish in the 400 meter dash after completing the event in 48.13 seconds. He was a member of the Mountain Hawks' 4x100 meter relay team along with freshman Benjamin Konigsberg, sophomore Justin Mahoney, and junior Martin Otieno. The squad finished in first with a time of 41.63 seconds.

Mahoney, Otieno and Monroe head into the Pollard Invite holding the meet record in the 4x100 meter relay. The trio teamed up with Ifeanyi Edochie '12 to finish in a time of 42.03 seconds. Lehigh took the top five spots in the 800 meter run, with sophomore Daniel Paez beating junior Kenneth Wilkinson by 0.34 seconds to take first place. The men's team met four IC4A Championship qualifying standards at its last outdoor meet at Bucknell. Sophomore Casey Gilboy won his section in the 3000 meter steeplechase, while junior Tyler Mueller placed ninth in the 1000 meter run with a regional championship qualifying time of 30:16.54.

Four meet records on the women's side fell at last year's Pollard Invite. Senior Kristin Slotnick won the 200 meter dash, sprinting to a meet record time of 25.70 seconds. Senior E'Lana Lemon took first place in the hammer with a 54.34 meter throw, while junior Brooke Astor took first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a record time of 14.38 seconds. A new school record in the 800 meter run was set at last year's 2012 Bison Outdoor Classic when junior Jessica Kendzor qualified for the ECAC Championships with a time of 2:08.61 in the event.
In addition to Lafayette, Lehigh will be going up against DeSales, Moravian, Muhlenberg, Ithaca, Cortland and Utica at the Pollard Invite. Penn State, Cornell, Duquesne, Allegheny and St. Lawrence will be sending athletes to compete against the Mountain Hawks at the Bison Outdoor Classic. No team scores will be kept at either meet.

Members of Lehigh's women's and men's teams will return to Moravian for the Greyhound Invitational next week, while other athletes will compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J. Both competitions are scheduled for April 19 and 20.
