EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team split itself between three different meets Saturday, including the Winthrop Invite, Lafayette 7 Way, and Raleigh Relays. The team enjoyed varied success over the trio of meets.
Lehigh had strong performances all around the field events throughout the meet. Senior Christopher Buck and sophomore Ryan Rhodes came in third and fourth place in the shot put, while Paquin and freshman Christopher Foley also represented Lehigh in the event. Senior Ricky Okoye placed second in the javelin with a throw of 52.41 meters and junior Benjamin Beauchamp finished third in the discus with a heave of 45.78 meters. In the men's high jump, junior captain Patrick Ciez leaped 2.00 meters for second place, while sophomore Adesida Adeolu was right behind him in third with 1.95 meters. Freshmen Tyler John and Beau Whitman tied for eighth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.10 meters.
No team scores were kept at the invitational.
The Mountain Hawks earned 50 points at Saturday's Lafayette 7 Way, which put them in fifth place.
Otieno was Lehigh's best sprinter at the meet, finishing second after clocking in at 10.92 seconds in the 100 meter dash. The Brown and White had three top-10 finishers in the 800 meter run, with junior Kenneth Wilkinson placing fourth (1:57.94), junior Nicholas Molloy coming in eighth (1:59.00) and junior Samuel Bernitt in tenth (2:00.52). Freshman Peter Schwarzenberg and sophomore Stephen Keith finished fourth and fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Sophomore Ryan Mahalsky and junior Jimmy Miller competed in the 10,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays on Friday, while junior Tyler Mueller ran in the 5,000 meters.
“None of our athletes have really peaked yet, so the fact that they're setting school records and personal records is remarkable and a real testimony to the technique that they're executing in their individual events,” Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch said.
The Brown and White will compete against Lafayette in a dual meet at 11:30 a.m. next Saturday.
