BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two student-athletes from the Lehigh track and field programs were named to the Academic All-Patriot League teams for indoor track and field, announced Tuesday. Senior Lauren Pietrosh was named to the women's Academic All-League team for the second straight year, while junior Paul Ciavardelli represents the Lehigh men on the team.
The Academic All-Patriot League teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team or the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key contributor in their sport.
Pietrosh garnered the third Academic All-Patriot League honor of her career and her second for the indoor season. The New Jersey native carries a 3.90 GPA as a marketing major and has been a regular on both the Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
A first team All-Patriot League selection, Pietrosh was a member of two Patriot League Championship-winning relay teams Feb. 15-17 at West Point, N.Y. Pietrosh ran on the 4x800 meter relay team and the Distance Medley Relay team, both of whom repeated as league champions and met the ECAC qualifying standard. Pietrosh also competed in the 1000 meters, finishing fifth overall.
Ciavardelli was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for the first time in his career. A native of Broomall, Pa., Ciavardelli
carries a 3.57 GPA as an accounting major. He is a two-time member of the Dean's List and a two-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
On the track, Ciavardelli finished tenth in the 500 meters at the Patriot League Championships, and was a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that finished third, with an IC4A qualifying time.
Also on Tuesday, Navy senior Christopher Galvin and Army sophomore Lisa Junta were named Scholar-Athletes of the Year for men's and women's indoor track, respectively.
Pietrosh, Ciavardelli and a large group of other Mountain Hawks will compete this weekend in the ECAC/IC4A Championships, March 1-3 in Boston, Mass.
