Lehigh downs Mount St. Mary's 6-1 for second spring win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team snapped its three match losing streak with a 6-1 win over Mount St. Mary's Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won two of three doubles matches plus the first five singles flights to pick up their second win of the season as they improve to 2-5 heading into a weekend off from competition.
In doubles play, Lehigh's top team of junior Jenai Bilimoria and sophomore Abby Farrell posted an 8-3 win over Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy. The Mountaineers posted an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, but Lehigh's No. 3 team clinched the doubles point as junior Jill Sloand teamed with freshman Ali Kaminetsky to defeat Liz Rossi and Jenny Smith 8-6.
Lehigh extended its lead in singles play as Bilimoria won convincingly 6-3, 6-0 over Pinchoff at the top flight. Farrell put the Mountain Hawks up 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kelly Conroy at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Emily Bruch clinched the match for the Brown and White with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Carly Landini at No. 4 singles.
At No. 3 singles, Kaminetsky picked up her first varsity singles win as she outlasted Renee Deane in three sets. Kaminetsky won the first set 6-2 and after dropping the second 3-6 battled back to win the third 6-3.
Sloand matched Farrell with her third singles win of the season as she won a third set ten point tiebreak over Rossi at No. 5 singles. With sophomore Molly Brooks out due to injury, freshman Marian Prim played at No. 6 singles but fell 6-4, 7-5 to Jenny Smith.
The Mountain Hawks will be off from competition next weekend and will close out their eight match home stand when they host Towson and Temple March 2-3.
