WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will both enter the final day of the Patriot League Championships within striking distance of the leaders as the men's team finished day two with 33 points, resting in third. The women's team earned three victories and accumulated 48.33 points to end the afternoon less than two points behind leader Bucknell (50).
On the men's side, the Mountain Hawks picked up multiple top three performances, including a victory in the high jump by sophomore Adeolu Adesida, who set the Patriot League Championship record with a height 2.12m.
After finishing the first day of competition in the lead, junior Ryan Paquin placed third in the heptathlon with a final score of 4795 points, netting the Mountain Hawks six points. Paquin picked up wins in the 60 meter dash (7.33), long jump (6.67m) and the 60 meter hurdles (8.62).
In the 5000 meter run, junior Jimmy Miller picked up a fifth place finish with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14:40.62, while the 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Daniel Paez, Gregory Caldwell, Christopher Watson and Mitchell Biler took third after crossing the line in 7:44.71, which also qualified them for the IC4A Championships.
Adesida's IC4A-qualifying jump eclipsed the previous record of 2.11 set in 1997 by Army's Jon Pontius and Lafayette's Matt Ruff, while fellow sophomore Derek Gaul placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.90m. With his jump Adesida became the first male Mountain Hawk to claim a Patriot League Championship in his respective event.
For the women, the Mountain Hawks earned three victories though the first two days to separate themselves from the pack and keep within striking distance of Bucknell.
On day one of the competition, junior Brooke Astor took first in the pentathlon, earning victories in the 60 meter hurdles (8.90) and long jump (5.41m) en route to her 3346 points. Astor won the event at the Patriot League Championships for the second consecutive season, becoming the first female Mountain Hawk to earn first team All-Patriot League honors.
Lehigh earned another victory in the 4x800 meter relay team as the squad of seniors Brittany Pietrosh, Lauren Pietrosh, Jessica Kendzor and Julia Perry finished the event in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:03.50, beating second place Bucknell by .57.
Senior E'Lana Lemon's ECAC-qualifying throw of 18.06m was good for the third Lehigh victory of the day as she defeated the rest of the Patriot League field by .47 meters.
In the long jump, sophomore Serenah Polite finished third with a jump of 5.53 meters, while senior Tori Berard picked up a fifth place finish in the 5000 meter run, turning in a time of 17:54.57.
