BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- After a record-setting offensive effort in their season-opening win at Niagara, the Mountain Hawks will return to action Monday against NJIT in the 2013-14 home opener at Stabler Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be viewed for free live on the Patriot League Network.

Lehigh and the Highlanders will meet for the eighth time in program history, as the Mountain Hawks will enter Monday's game with a perfect 7-0 record against the Highlanders. Last season, a free throw from junior Katie O'Reilly with 4.6 seconds left on the clock lifted Lehigh over NJIT, 46-45.

The teams exchanged leads five times on the day, but in the end, Lehigh's free throw shooting proved to be the difference for its seventh victory over the Highlanders.

Lehigh shot 33.3 percent from the field and 64.7 percent from the line on the afternoon. The Mountain Hawks out-rebounded their opponent, 41-30, while outscoring the Highlanders 20-14 in the paint. Sophomore Kerry Kinek led the Mountain Hawks with 17 points and nine boards, narrowly missing a double-double.

The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 93-73 win at Niagara on Friday night. Lehigh's 93 points were the most scored in 23 years, with the last 93-point effort coming over Bucknell on Jan. 13, 1990. The win over the Purple Eagles gave the Mountain Hawks their first season-opening win since the 2009-10 season when Lehigh defeated Lipscomb to begin the season.

Five Mountain Hawks scored in double-figures to lift Lehigh past the Purple Eagles. Kinek led the charge with 21 points and nine rebounds, just one point shy of tying her career high of 22 points.Lehigh finished Friday's game with a 47.6 (30-for-63) field goal percentage and 42.1 (8-for-19) three-point percentage.

NJIT dropped its season opener to Stony Brook on Friday night, 55-40, despite double-digit efforts from two Highlanders. Junior Martina Matejcikova contributed a career-high 16 points and five assists while junior Alyssa Albanese tossed in 12 points.

Despite the loss, the Highlanders shot 42.9 percent (15-for-35) from field goal range while limiting the Seawolves to 25.0 percent (15-for-60). Turnovers were a key factor for the Highlanders, as NJIT surrendered 27 while forcing just 14 from Stony Brook. The Highlanders defense tallied seven blocks, three of which came from junior Nicole Maticka.

Last season, the Highlanders won the Great West Tournament, which was NJIT's first conference tournament title at any level since beginning play in 1986-87. The Highlanders finished 16-15 a season ago to secure the team's first winning record and highest wins total in the Division I era that began in 2006-07.

Following Monday's game, the Mountain Hawks will remain home to host Villanova on Thursday. The contest will be Lehigh's fourth annual Education Day game, presented by Wells Fargo. The game can be viewed live on the Patriot League Network.
