BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team will compete in a pair of meets this weekend as the Mountain Hawks will head to the prestigious Penn Relays Thursday-Saturday while Lehigh will also host the Lehigh Games on Goodman Campus Friday-Saturday. Lehigh is coming off a pair of stellar meets and will look to keep the momentum going into its final weekend before the Patriot League Championships.
Between the Larry Ellis Invitational and the Greyhound Invitational last weekend, Lehigh had some stellar performances which included personal records, a meet record as well as an incredible three broken school records.
Rebecca Duhamel won the discus throw at the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian, setting a new school with a distance of 45.40m which surpassed the previous Lehigh mark of 44.44m set by Amanda Sage in 1998. Duhamel's throw also qualified for the ECAC Championships, which will be held at Princeton on May 11-13.
The second school record of the weekend was broken by Jessica Kendzor, as she placed third in the 400m dash with a time of 56.79. Kendzor also qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 800m at the Larry Ellis Invitational with a time of 2:09.38 as she placed 10th in the event.
Kristin Slotnick was responsible for the third broken school record, as she placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.93, surpassing her previous school record of 25.07 which she set last year.
E'Lana Lemon also had a successful weekend as she set a meet record at the Greyhound Invitational, winning the hammer throw with a distance of 54.45m. Jimil Ataman placed second in the event with a distance of 51.34m as the duo qualified for the ECAC Championships.
It will be the 118th edition of the Penn Relays, which are held at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Lehigh will be facing the best collegiate athletes in the country.
In last year's Penn Relays, Lehigh had some strong performances led by Duhamel's ninth place in the discus throw with a distance of 42.41m
While some Mountain Hawks compete in Philadelphia, others will be part of the Lehigh team that hosts the Lehigh Games on Goodman Campus which will feature 17 teams including the likes of rival Lafayette, Seton Hall, Monmouth, Saint Joseph's, Moravian and East Stroudsburg.
The men's and women's javelin and men's and women's hammer throw will take place Friday starting at 4 p.m. while the rest of the events will begin Saturday at 10 a.m.
After this weekend, Lehigh will head to Worcester, Mass. for the Patriot League Championships, which will take place Friday, May 4-Saturday, May 5.
