Lehigh drops 6-1 decision at Navy in league opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In its Patriot League opener, the Lehigh women's tennis team fell to a tough Navy squad by a 6-1 score Sunday on the USNA Tennis Courts. Senior Liz Piscitelli led the way for the Mountain Hawks, teaming with freshman Gabby Drucker to win at No. 2 doubles, while also accounting for Lehigh's only point with a win at No. 3 singles.
The loss drops the Mountain Hawks to 3-11 on the spring season.
Navy won two of the three doubles matches to capture the doubles point, but Piscitelli and Drucker did manage an 8-6 win over Erin Snook and Noelle Kaufmann at No. 2 doubles.
The Mids extended their lead in singles play with convincing victories at the top two singles flights, plus No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Piscitelli earned Lehigh's only point with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Stefanie Ton at No. 3 singles. Freshman Emily Bruch won a set off Kaufman at No. 6 singles, but Kaufmann won a ten point super tiebreak 10-8 to capture the match.
The Mountain Hawks will return home for their next two matches, beginning Thursday when Lehigh hosts Army at 3:30 p.m. Lehigh will also host Colgate at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
