Lehigh competes Friday in final meet before Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In the final meet before the Patriot League Championships next weekend, the Lehigh women's track and field team will compete at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational at 5 p.m. Friday at the NYC Armory. The Mountain Hawks have put together some stellar performances this season and will look to continue that trend on Friday prior to heading to Bucknell next weekend for the Championships.
Along with Lafayette and Rider who are hosting the meet, Lehigh will competing against UMBC, UConn, Saint Joseph's, Rhode Island, Delaware, Columbia and Rutgers.
Lehigh is coming off a pair of meets as the Mountain Hawks split up to compete in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational and the John Covert Classic.
At the Invitational, Lehigh's performances were highlighted by a pair of broken school records – the Mountain Hawks' third straight meet in which a school record was broken.
Freshman Savanna Plombon set a school record in the 3,000-meter as she finished tenth with a time of 9:55.83. The Frederick, Md. native surpassed the previous school record of 9:58.61 which was set by Jennifer Schappert in 2007.
The other school record came in the distance medley as the team of sophomore Jessica Kendzor, junior Elizabeth McManus, junior Lauren Pietrosh and junior Julia Perry finished fifth with a time of 11:57.24, surpassing the previous school record of 11:58.71 which was set last year. The team's time also qualified them for ECACs.

The Mountain Hawks faced some incredible competition, including seven of the Top 10 women's teams in the nation (No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 UCF, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 BYU and No. 8 Texas Tech).
At the 20th John Covert Classic, hosted by Lehigh, the Mountain Hawks had a three first-place finishes. Pietrosh won the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:19.53, senior Catherine Tobiasen won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.52 and sophomore Jimil Ataman won the weight throw with a distance of 14.55m for her first victory of the season.
All of these meets are building up to the biggest meet of the season as starting at noon on Friday, February 17th and ending on February 19th, Lehigh will compete in the Patriot League Championships in Lewisburg, Pa. The Mountain Hawks will look to improve upon their fourth place finish at last year's Championships.
