Freshmen propel Lehigh past Mount St. Mary's for first win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a heartbreaking loss last Sunday, the fourth time proved to be a charm for Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks picked up their first win of 2012 Saturday, 5-2 over Mount St. Mary's at the Lewis Tennis Center. Lehigh's three freshmen were the story as all three posted singles victories for the Mountain Hawks, who won two doubles matches and four singles matches and are now 1-3 on the season.
The Mountain Hawks took a 1-0 lead after prevailing in two of three tightly contested doubles matches. Lehigh's top team of sophomores Taylor Hampshire and Jenai Bilimoria won 8-6 over Kelly Conroy and Samantha Pinchoff, while senior Liz Piscitelli teamed with Abby Farrell to win over Renee Deane and Carly Landini by the same 8-6 score at No. 2 doubles.Hampshire made her season debut in singles, but fell 6-2, 6-2 to Conroy at the No. 2 flight. Farrell was the first freshman to post a singles win, downing Deane 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
At first singles, Bilimoria dropped the first set to Pinchoff, but rallied for a three-set win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. With Lehigh leading 3-2 freshmen Gabby Drucker and Molly Brooks pulled out wins in the final two flights to lock up the Mountain Hawks' first win. Drucker downed Elizabeth Rossi in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, while Brooks outlasted Lauren Clark 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in a marathon match that lasted close to three hours and 45 minutes.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the court on Sunday when they host Delaware at 10 a.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
