Long time rivals Lehigh and Navy to meet Saturday in Annapolis

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh wrestling team has eight duals remaining in the 2010-11 season, and seven of them will be against EIWA opponents, beginning Saturday night when the 12th-ranked Mountain Hawks visit one of their oldest rivals, the Navy Midshipmen. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 2-2 showing at the Virginia Duals, which was good for fourth place, Lehigh's third straight top-four finish at the at the Duals. Lehigh will meet Navy for the 91st time Saturday, making the Mids Lehigh's second most often wrestled opponent behind Penn State.
Sophomore Robert Hamlin has impressed in his move up to 184. Hamlin won his first 12 bouts this season before losing to Trevor Rutt of Wisconsin in the Midlands semifinals. Hamlin wrestled back to finish third at the Midlands, and went 3-0 at the Virginia Duals including a 7-6 win over top-ranked Joe LeBlanc of Wyoming. That win helped Hamlin earn EIWA Wrestler of the Week honors. The Jonesville, Vermont native is now 17-1 on the season. Hamlin went 18-12 as a freshman and qualified for the NCAA Championships at 174.Navy has wrestled just two duals this season, downing Franklin & Marshall on December 10 and dropping a 28-9 decision at No. 9 Oklahoma on January 7. The Mids have spent most of their time on the tournament circuit, competing at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, Reno Tournament of Champions and the Southern Scuffle over the last six weeks. Navy is led by All-American Bryce Saddoris, who is ranked seventh at 157, while Luke Rebertus is the only other ranked Midshipman, coming in at No. 11 at 184. Three other Mids are also ranked in the top six in the most recent EIWA rankings: Aaron Kalil at 125, Matt DeMichiel at 174 and Danny Miller at 285.
Navy is Lehigh's second most-often wrestled opponent behind Penn State. The Mountain Hawks are wrestling the Mids in a dual for the 60th straight year. Lehigh has won 13 of the last 14 duals against Navy to creep within two wins of evening the all-time series.
The Mountain Hawks are 15-0-1 in their last 16 duals against EIWA opponents. The last EIWA team to beat Lehigh was Penn on February 24, 2008.
