Mountain Hawks drop 5-0 decision to Delaware

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team (16-12) was held to just three hits in a 5-0 loss to the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens in the Liberty Bell Classic semifinals on Wednesday afternoon on the Goodman Campus. The Delaware pitching staff combined for nine innings of three-hit ball with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
Kevin Mihalik led the way for the Mountain Hawks as he collected two of the team's three hits. Logan Winchester accounted for the other Lehigh hit. Cameron Phillips made the start on the mound for Lehigh and pitched decent. Phillips went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs and striking out three. With the loss, Phillips drops to 1-1 on the season.
In the fourth inning, Delaware led off the inning with three straight hits, a single, an RBI double and a single. After the fourth batter of the inning was walked, Phillips was in a jam with bases loaded and nobody out. After striking the next batter out, Phillips forced a double play groundout to limit the Delaware damage to just one run.
In the top of the fifth inning, Lehigh faced a similar situation. After the first Blue Hen batter struck out in the inning, Delaware connected on three straight hits, with the third one being an RBI single. Brandon Sady then came in to relieve Phillips with two runners on base and one out. Sady forced a flyout and a groundout to escape the jam. Delaware had a 2-0 lead.
In the ninth inning, Delaware added some insurance runs including two-straight doubles which gave the Blue Hens a 3-0 lead. Delaware added another two runs later in the inning on a string of singles and walks to up the Blue Hen lead to 5-0.
The Mountain Hawks will be back in action this weekend as they head to Lafayette for a four-game series with the Leopards, beginning on Saturday.
