DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Lehigh baseball team continued its spring break trip in Florida with a tough 6-5 loss to Bowling Green on Monday. The Mountain Hawks (4-4) took a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning, but the Eagles stormed back with two in the seventh and one more in the eighth to steal the victory. Lehigh will be off tomorrow before facing Central Michigan on Wednesday.

Jayme Edwards earned the start on the mound, pitching a solid five innings while giving up three runs and striking out three. Logan Winchester and Kevin Mihalik each posted two hits and an RBI while Brendan McGaheran reached base four times via two walks, a hit and hit by pitch.

Bowling Green's Charles Wooten tossed a solid game on the mound, pitching five innings and giving up three runs while Ross Gerdeman tossed four two-hit innings in relief. Designated as the road team, the Eagles struck in the top of the first, using an RBI single from Jon Berti to take a 1-0 lead. That was the start of a strong afternoon for Berti, who finished with four of the Eagles' 13 hits.

Lehigh responded in the bottom of the inning with a pair to take a 2-1 lead. After loading the bases with only one out, Winchester scored on an error before Jeff Wiand drove in Andrew Russell with an RBI groundout.

The Eagles converted single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead, but the Mountain Hawks responded with one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to retake a 5-3 advantage. Following a Russell double to start the fifth, Austin Borden singled to score Russell. Lehigh then retook the lead in the sixth, playing small ball to plate the go-ahead run. After leadoff hitter Chad Warga was hit by a pitch, hhe was bunted to second by Ryan Gajdos, then scored on a McGaheran RBI single. Three batters later, Mihalik added an RBI single to plate McGaheran and give Lehigh the 5-3 cushion.
Bowling Green came right back in the seventh with two of its own, however, as three straight singles led to the first run. T.J. Losby then hit the Eagles' fourth single of the inning, scoring Berti for the game-tying marker.

A tough break in the top of the eighth led to the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run for the Eagles as back-to-back singles from Walker and Pitzulo looked to put runners on the corners, but an error allowed Walker to come all the way home to make it 6-5.

Dan Ciccone pitched 1.2 innings of perfect relief, giving Lehigh a chance for a late-game rally. The Mountain Hawks did put a runner on base in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, but it wasn't enough as Gerdeman wrapped up a strong performance on the mound to pick up the victory.

Lehigh will return to action on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Central Michigan.
