Mountain Hawks blank St. Francis (N.Y.) for first spring win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – It took seven tries but the Lehigh women's tennis team finally got into the win column with a convincing 7-0 shutout of St. Francis (N.Y.) Saturday at the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks swept all seven matches in a modified two-doubles, five-singles format and dropped just four games on the afternoon as they improve to 1-6 on the season.
In singles play, Lehigh won all five matches, dropping just two games in the process. Hampshire beat Van Sluytman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for her first varsity singles point, while Bilimoria got her first singles win 6-0, 6-0 over Opala at No. 2 singles. Larkin also picked up her first singles win for the Mountain Hawks, blanking Angel Lawrence 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomores Patricia Muething and Abbey Perl posted wins at third and fourth singles, with Muething blanking Slay 6-0, 6-0 and Perl winning 6-0, 6-1 over Douglas.
The Mountain Hawks will now be off until Sunday March 6 when they travel to Fort Meyers, Florida to face Florida Gulf Coast in the first of two spring break matches.
