BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh swimming and diving teams will host their final home meet of the season and get a final look at a Patriot League opponent Saturday when the Mountain Hawks host the Bucknell Bison. Saturday’s meet will be the final meet at Jacobs Pool for 14 Lehigh seniors, as the Lehigh men will be looking to bounce back from their first loss last weekend at Army, while the women need one win in their final two meets to clinch a second straight winning dual season.
Led by multiple individual event wins from senior Allison Rolish and sophomore Alena Pollitt, Lehigh’s women downed Army 167-133 last Friday night at West Point, N.Y. Senior Stephanie Naylor and freshmen Emily DiDonato and Katie Haycraft added event wins, while the Mountain Hawks did well to collect points from second and third place finishes as well.
Lehigh’s women will be challenged by a Bucknell team that has perennially finished in the top three at the Patriot League Championships. The Bison are 6-3 in duals this season, including a win over Army and a home loss to Columbia last weekend. Allison FitzPatrick is the reigning Patriot League Female Diver of the Week.
Saturday’s meet will be the final home meet for Rolish and Naylor plus six other senior women: Liz Murray, Lisa Rauch, Anne Rodriguez, Julie Sicherman, Erin Tormey and Claire Winiarski.
On the men’s side, Lehigh is looking for a bounce back effort after winning just two of the first 14 events in the loss to the Black Knights. Freshman Tyler Lareau continued his strong freshman season with a win in the 100 back. The Mountain Hawks also won the 400 medley relay with seniors Kevin McGrath and Ben Dearden joining Lareau and freshman Frank Cuzzola on the winning team. In addition to McGrath and Dearden, seniors Ryan Guttormsen, Mike Harm, Mark Ostapenko and Jon Westfield will compete for the final time at Jacobs Pool on Saturday.
Bucknell’s men went 0-2 last weekend dropping duals to both Army and Columbia. The Bison are 4-4 on the season.
The Bison women have dominated versus Lehigh in recent years. On the men’s side, Lehigh will look to defeat Bucknell for the first time since 2007.
Saturday’s meet gets underway at 1 p.m. from Lehigh’s Jacobs Pool.
