HAMILTON, N.Y. – Lehigh’s three game win streak came to a close on Saturday evening as the Mountain Hawks fell to Colgate by a score of 12-4 underneath the lights at Andy Kerr Stadium.  Lehigh was down just one at halftime, but the Mountain Hawks offense was unable to get going in the second half as they fall to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League following the loss.  Colgate now sits at 2-8 and 1-3 in league action after picking up the win.

Colgate took twice as many shots as Lehigh (42-21) and doubled the Mountain Hawks in ground balls (40-20).  Will Scudder led the Brown and White with four ground balls and also won seven face-offs, while junior Rich Bradley caused three turnovers and picked up a pair of GBs.  David DiMaria led the visitors with two assists and Conor Murphy stopped 13 shots in 60 minutes of action in goal.

Ian Murphy led the Raiders with eight shot attempts as he scored a team best five points on three goals and a pair of assists.  Jim Carroll scooped up a game high 10 ground balls and won 12 face-offs, while three different Raiders caused two turnovers.  Like Murphy, Jared Madison had double digit saves for Colgate as he finished with 11 stops.

Colgate jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals by John Donnally and Peter Baum in the first three minutes of play.  Adam Johnston got the Mountain Hawks on the board with a score at the 5:53 mark of the opening quarter off a feed from DiMaria, but Ian Murphy answered for the Raiders with a goal of his own just 46 seconds later as the home team went in front 3-1.

Cameron Lao-Gosney pulled Lehigh within one with a goal at the 3:31 mark as Roman Lao-Gosney assisted on the score, and Jonathan Stumpf tied things at three when he found the back of the net with 1:40 on the clock, which proved to be the final goal of the opening quarter.

The second quarter produced only one goal, which came from Murphy just 54 seconds in to put the Raiders on top 4-3.  The final 14:06 of the quarter was scoreless and the teams retired for halftime with Lehigh down by just one.

Andrew Mould gave Colgate a two-goal advantage when he scored off a Ben McCabe assist at the 12:26 mark of the third quarter, and McCabe increased the Raiders lead to 6-3 when he found the back of the net with 2:50 on the clock.  Murphy’s goal with just over a minute to play in the quarter put Lehigh in a four goal hole as the teams entered the final 15 minutes.

Dante Fantoni got Lehigh within 7-4 with his goal at the 11:33 mark of the fourth, but McCabe answered for the Raiders when he scored with 9:17 remaining.  Baum took a feed from Murphy and made it a 9-4 game with 4:01 left and the Raiders tacked on three more to put the game out of reach.

Lehigh will return to action on Friday, April 16 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to take on the Bucknell Bison underneath the lights.  The opening face-off is set for 7:30.
