Mountain Hawks soar past Holy Cross 6-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lehigh snapped its four match losing streak and picked up its first Patriot League win of the season on Sunday as the Mountain Hawks downed Holy Cross 6-1 inside Army’s Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won two-of-three doubles matches to claim the first point and then added wins in five of six singles matches to pick up just their second win of the spring season. Lehigh improves to 2-8 overall 1-1 in the league with the victory.
The Mountain Hawks’ No. 1 doubles team of senior Julie Arthofer and Liz Piscitelli cruised to a win at No. 1 doubles and after a tightly contested loss at No. 2 doubles the No. 3 team of junior Kiera Murasko-Blank and freshman Abbey Perl defeated Kathryn Wilkie and Emma Rudnik 9-7 to give Lehigh an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Piscitelli picked up her first singles win of the spring season downing Carolyn Chandley in straight sets at No. 2 singles. Arthofer needed three sets to dispose of Kristen Meahl at No. 1 singles. Lehigh added on to its lead with wins from senior Stacey Reich and freshman Patricia Muething at No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively, while sophomore Izzy Breit won an eight-game pro set over Wilkie at No. 6 singles.
Holy Cross falls to 2-5 overall, 1-2 against league foes.
The Mountain Hawks will be back on the courts on Monday when they host Stony Brook at 5 p.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
