Lehigh men, women both finish fourth at PLC

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The 2010 Patriot League Championships came to an end Saturday night at Navy's Lejeune Hall. Three more women's school records fell, enabling the Mountain Hawks to move up to fourth place on the women's side with 317.5 points. The Lehigh men did not set any new records on Saturday, but did match the women with a fourth place team finish, accumulating 427 points. Combined, the Mountain Hawks finished the 2010 championships with 11 school records.
For the third straight day, senior Allison Rolish set an individual school record. On Saturday Rolish placed fourth in the women's 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:02.18, eclipsing the old mark by more than 11 seconds. Rolish's fourth place finish matched the highest individual finish by a Lehigh woman in the championships, matching Erin Tormey's fourth place finish in the three-meter dive on Thursday.
Tormey had another strong day on the diving boards, finishing fifth in the one-meter with 231.80 points.
In the 200 fly, sophomore Priscilla Barletta reached the finals, finishing fifth with a time of 2:06.62. Classmate Alyssa Siano took 14th in the same events.
Freshman Emily DiDonato also reached the championship finals, in the 200 breaststroke. DiDonato placed seventh with a time of 2:22.19. Classmate Danielle Caruso qualified for the consolation final, finishing 16th.
Lehigh's second school record of the night was set by sophomore Paola Simon, who posted a time of 52.64 seconds in the 100 free, good for an 11th place finish overall. In that same event, freshman Katie Brinkhoff finished in 16th place.
The Mountain Hawks had four women qualify for the consolation finals in the 200 back. Sophomore Alena Pollitt led the way with an 11th place finish in 2:06.57, followed by senior Liz Murray (12), sophomore Lauren Armstrong (14) and freshman Brooke Smalley (15)
Lehigh's final school record came in the final event, as Barletta, Simon, Brinkhoff and Katie Haycraft set a school record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:30.85.
The top men's finisher on Saturday was freshman Frank Cuzzola, who placed fifth in the 100 free with a time of 46.12. Junior Andrew DiPietro and senior Ryan Guttormsen finished 14th and 15th respectively
The Mountain Hawks had two finalists in the 200 back. Junior Billy Dunne finished sixth with a time of 1:51.76 while freshman Tyler Lareau finished seventh with a time of 1:51.87. Lareau owned the top male finish of the championships, taking second in the 100 back on Friday.
In the 200 breast, senior Kevin McGrath finished sixth with a time of 2:06.89. Sophomore Jared Blacker finished in 16th place.
Freshman Alex Aboud capped off a strong tournament with an eighth place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.14. In the 1650 freestyle, sophomore Chris Toth placed eighth with a time of 15:57.96 while Alford finished 13th.
In men's diving, sophomore Ryan Helfrich made the finals of the three-meter, placing seventh with 222.40 points.
In the final event of the championships, Cuzzola, Guttormsen, DiPietro and Lareau placed fourth in the 400 free relay with a time 3:03.23.
In the team races, Navy cruised to victories on the men's and women's side. Navy's women accumulated 887 points, besting second place Bucknell by 200 points. The Navy men continued their dominance over the league scoring 1047 points and topping Bucknell by a whopping 401 points.
