Rutgers proves too strong for Mountain Hawks

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its first action in nearly two weeks Lehigh had its hands full with a tough Rutgers squad and the Scarlet Knights flexed their muscle with a 7-0 win over the Mountain Hawks Friday at the Lewis Tennis Center. Rutgers swept all three doubles matches and six singles matches to move to 2-1 on the season, while Lehigh falls to 0-3.
The visiting Scarlet Knights started off strong by winning the doubles point, while not dropping more than two games in any flight.
In singles play, Rutgers cruised to straight set wins in all six flights. Senior Stacey Reich took a total of seven games from Katherine Arlak at No. 3 singles in a 6-3, 6-4 loss, while sophomore Liz Piscitelli and freshman Patricia Muething took five games apiece in losing efforts.
The Mountain Hawks will try again for that elusive first win on Sunday when they welcome Mount St. Mary’s to the Lewis Tennis Center for a 10 a.m. match.
