BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head field hockey coach Julie Mazer will not be retained for the 2011 season, Murray H. Goodman Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett announced on Tuesday. Mazer spent eight seasons in Bethlehem, where she amassed a 47-95 record and guided the Mountain Hawks to the Patriot League tournament four times.
“Julie served our program and our student-athletes with dedicated commitment and an understanding of the academic and personal development aspirations Lehigh prioritize,” said Sterrett. “She hired high quality assistants and recruited very fine young women who have been outstanding students and have positively impacted our community. We are grateful for her service to Lehigh. It is our ambition to build upon these strengths and to achieve a more consistent level of competitive success.”
Lehigh has begun a national search to fill the position.
Mazer's teams also excelled in the classroom where the Mountain Hawks earned the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic Team Award in each of her first seven seasons, for having a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Lehigh concluded its season on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Holy Cross at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks finished with a 3-13 record in 2010 and will lose six seniors to graduation.
