Mountain Hawks win again on road, 1-0 over FDU

TEANECK, N.J. – In its final tune-up before Patriot League play begins next weekend, Lehigh picked up its fourth consecutive road victory as the Mountain Hawks dominated play en route to a 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday at University Stadium. Sophomore Ali MacLeod netted her first goal of the season as Lehigh moves to 6-2-1 and matches its win total from 2008. Fairleigh Dickinson falls to 2-5 with the loss.
“We had a good handle of the game,” said Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin. “We had much better possession of the ball. They had a couple of opportunities but we did a good job defensively. It would have been nice to put a few more chances away but their goalkeeper made some good saves.
Oudin continued, “This is a good result for us. Playing our third game in six days, and going back on the road during this time when our team is focused heavily on academics it’s a positive result.”
The Mountain Hawks held a commanding 14-4 edge in shots and an equally impressive 9-1 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon.
MacLeod delivered the only goal of the match in the 29th minute when she tapped in a cross from senior Natalie Hojnacki for her third career tally. Hojnacki picked up her second assist of the year on the play and now leads Lehigh with eight points this season.
Defensively Lehigh limited Fairleigh Dickinson to just four shots as the Mountain Hawks posted their fourth shutout of the season. Junior Lauren Mains needed to make just two saves for the Mountain Hawks to earn the win in goal for Lehigh, which has lost just once in its last six games.
On the offensive end, Lehigh was led by senior Lauren Glazebrook and junior Glynn Fitzer, who each fired three shots including two on goal. Stephanie Tanzi finished with seven saves for the Knights.
“This marks the halfway point for us,” explained Oudin. “I feel good about where we are, and now we’ll have an opportunity to recharged, rest and get ready for the Patriot League season.”
Lehigh will now have eight days off before it opens Patriot League play against defending league champion Army on Friday October 2. Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
